Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week 2023
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that it is Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week 2023 from 2 to 8 October 2023; acknowledges and celebrates the fantastic benefits of participation in sport and physical activity, including to physical, mental and social wellbeing; calls on all partners across Scottish sport and beyond to play their part in making sport accessible, inclusive and welcoming to all women and girls; celebrates the many brilliant role models and leaders across grassroots and elite sport, Scottish governing bodies of sport and community sports clubs; calls for sustainable investment in building opportunities for and breaking down barriers to participation; acknowledges the work of the Scottish Parliament’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee inquiry into the participation of women and girls in sport; calls on all parties to consider the Committee’s recommendations and how to be proactive and contribute to driving positive change, and advocates that enabling and empowering all women and girls to be more active is everyone’s responsibility and that all MSPs in the Parliament should take the opportunity to publicly support Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week.
