New Perth Museum Secures £10 Million of Tay Cities Deal Funding

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the £10 million secured for the new Perth Museum as part of the Tay Cities Deal; considers that the combined investment from the UK Government, Scottish Government and Perth and Kinross Council for the new museum will showcase the rich history of Scotland’s first capital city and play a pivotal role in regenerating Perth by encouraging greater tourism to the city centre; understands that the new museum will contain the Stone of Destiny, which is returning to Perthshire for the first time in over 700 years; notes other prime exhibits of Perthshire’s extensive Jacobite history, with displays including Charles Edward Stuart’s solid-silver-hilted broadsword, which, it understands, was made by the Perth craftsman, James Brown, and given to Bonnie Prince Charlie by the third Duke of Perth in 1739, and believes that it will also display a rare wine glass inscribed with the Duke of Perth’s family motto, "Gang warily", who, it understands, was a prominent figure in the history of the failed 1745 Jacobite rising having assembled a large Perthshire regiment.
