£118 Million AI Skills Package from UK Government
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the £118 million of skills package funding from the UK Government to put artificial intelligence (AI) to work in improving every element of Britons' lives; notes that the University of Edinburgh and Heriot Watt University have been named as two of the institutions that will benefit from the UK Government's investment in AI, thanks to their ground-breaking research and innovation; understands that centres for postgraduate research, scholarships, a new visa scheme and a push for students to take on AI and data courses will ensure that the UK has the skilled workforce to harness the potential of AI, and believes that this will ensure that the country has the top global expertise and fosters the next generation of researchers needed to seize what it sees as the transformational benefits of this technology.
