Community Ownership Funding Award for The Bank, Dunblane
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes that Dunblane Square Ltd is to receive £411,250 from the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund for its project, The Bank; understands that The Bank, more commonly known locally as the old Bank of Scotland building, is a category B-listed building, constructed in 1835, which served as a bank until its closure in July 2022, which reportedly sparked controversy locally; further understands that it was bought by a local charity in 2023 to ensure that it was retained for the community, and that funding is currently being sought to transfer the building to a community-owned organisation; acknowledges that The Bank, in Dunblane, will not be a privately-owned business, and that it will be a member-owned organisation with the directors being volunteers and any profits generated being fed back into the community; notes that it has been established with the purpose of contributing to Dunblane town centre’s development by providing a hub to attract residents and visitors alike; further notes the plans for the building to be divided into two areas, with the first offering a venue for musical performances and film screenings, and the second area to be a tourist hub and restaurant, with space for bimonthly farmers’ markets; considers that the award will be a huge boost, not only to the rebuild but also to the morale of everyone involved in this wonderful project to develop the listed building into a community-led, owned and operated multi-functional arts and hospitality venue, with any profits to be invested back into Dunblane, and commends the group of volunteers on their endeavours and focused commitment towards making a positive impact in the local community through their contributions to the revitalisation of Dunblane town centre.
