The motion

That the Parliament commends Rodger Hill on his plan to cycle from Murrayfield, Edinburgh, to Donny Stadium, Dublin, in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), from 9 to 16 March 2024; understands that the event will mark the second anniversary of the tragic sudden death of David Hill, who was a well-loved parliamentary staffer and a passionate rugby player; praises the work to raise awareness and fundraise for CRY, a charity that seeks to prevent cardiac deaths in the young through increased awareness, screening and research as well as to support bereaved families affected by cardiac deaths; understands that early screening saves lives, and that in Italy, where early screening is mandatory for all young people engaged in organised sport, there has been an 89% reduction in young sudden cardiac deaths; notes that on the route, Rodger will visit 11 secondary schools to raise awareness among young people and to promote upcoming cardiac screening events in Dumfries; understands that, to date, the David Hill Memorial Fund has raised over £40,000, which has allowed David’s family to organise 400 free cardiac screenings in Dumfries, with more screenings to follow, and commends the family of David Hill for their charity work, and wishes everyone involved in the event in March the best of luck.
