Yvonne Manning, Falkirk Council’s Principal Librarian Named Librarian of the Year

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Falkirk Council’s Principal Librarian, Yvonne Manning, on being named Librarian of the Year 2024 by Youth Libraries Group (YLG); notes that each year, three librarians from across the UK are shortlisted for YLG’s Librarian of the Year award, with the candidates being assessed on the method and means that they utilise to encourage young people to engage with reading and their local libraries; understands that Yvonne leads the learning resource service within Falkirk Council’s Children’s Services; further understands that, with nearly four decades of experience, Yvonne supports schools in Falkirk to develop a reading culture, providing cross curricular resources, alongside outreach services, which includes storytelling sessions, reader development sessions and training for teachers; congratulates Yvonne on being named Librarian of the Year, and thanks her for all her hard work encouraging a crucial reading culture across the Falkirk district.
