Great Britain Mixed Curling Team Strike Gold at Youth Olympics

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Great Britain team after it claimed its first Youth Olympics curling gold when it overcame Denmark 7-5 in the mixed team finals in South Korea; notes the all-Scottish team, which is led by skip, Logan Carson, a pupil at Dalbeattie High School, who, along with Archie Hyslop and Tia Laurie, all curl at Dumfries Icebowl and are superbly coached by Graham Sloan and his team of volunteer coaches; further notes Dumfries Curling for its input in encouraging local youth talent; recognises team mate, Holly Burke, from Hamilton, in winning the gold medal, which was Team GB’s third of the games; acknowledges that Logan and Archie have won two Asham U14 titles, two Scottish Junior Championships as well as taking the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships; understands that, Tia, who took third place at the Scottish Juniors, was inspired to take up the sport while at school and having watched the remarkable exploits of Eve Muirhead's team, and wishes the quartet continued success in forthcoming competitions.
