Legendary Scottish Broadcaster Stepping Down after more than 30 Years

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates veteran journalist Bernard Ponsonby on his broadcasting career, as he steps down after 34 years in the news industry; notes that the Glasgow-born political journalist was born in Castlemilk, educated at Trinity High School, Rutherglen, and attended Strathclyde University; acknowledges that Bernard has worked as a reporter in the field, a presenter in a studio environment and an election anchor for over a quarter of a century; recognises that the political journalist has been STV's special correspondent since 2019, having joined the station in 1990, and served as the station's political editor for 19 years; acknowledges his presenting roles in Scotland Debates, Scottish Questions, Trial By Night, Politics Now and Scotland Tonight, interviewing six UK Prime Ministers and all of Scotland’s First Ministers; notes that Bernard also covered some of Scotland’s biggest news stories during his career, such as the Dunblane Primary School tragedy on 13 March 1996, and the Mull of Kintyre helicopter crash on 2 June 1994, and acknowledges that he has twice been the recipient of the Royal Television Society Scotland's Journalist of the Year Award.
