Glasgow's 850th Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the city of Glasgow on the occasion of its 850th anniversary; recognises its historic granting of burgh status in 1175, which marked the beginning of its journey to become what it considers a vital hub of trade, culture and innovation; celebrates what it sees as the city's rich heritage, diverse communities and contributions to Scotland and the UK; believes that it has resilience, creativity and global influence in areas such as education, industry and the arts; notes the heartfelt message of congratulations sent to Glasgow by The King, commending the city’s achievements and its motto, Let Glasgow Flourish; highlights the many inventions and innovations originating from Glasgow, including the refrigerator; notes what it sees as the city's global leadership in shipbuilding enterprise, and commends the efforts of all Glaswegians who are marking this significant milestone with pride and unity.
