Support in Scotland for Domestic Oil and Gas Production
The motion
That the Parliament believes that people in Scotland back domestic oil and gas; understands that new polling by True North reportedly shows that 71% of respondents to the survey in Scotland want North Sea oil and gas to meet energy demand; considers that by rushing towards net zero, without proper planning, Scotland risks importing necessary oil and gas from abroad with a larger carbon impact; understands that less than a quarter of survey respondents think that the windfall tax is achieving its aim of reducing household bills; acknowledges CEO of the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, Russell Borthwick's comments that “A common sense approach to energy policy has been sorely lacking when it comes to our oil and gas resources", and encourages all parties to get behind the offshore energy industry, which, it believes, would be in line with the view of the majority of people in Scotland.
