That the Parliament commemorates Hamish MacInnes on the donation of his entire legacy to the Scottish Mountaineering Trust (SMT) charity; acknowledges what it sees as the revelation that the late mountaineer, who died in 2020, donated his full £446,000 fortune, which will be used by SMT to fund mountain skills training, footpath improvements and mountain hut renovations, as well as supporting young people and those in disadvantaged communities to access the outdoors; notes what it regards as Dr MacInnes' extraordinary and extensive achievements, including international mountaineering in the world's highest peaks, recognition as the founder of Scotland's mountain rescue teams and author of some of the most important books in mountaineering, as well as the invention of key equipment, including the first all-metal ice axe and the rescue stretcher that is still used worldwide today, and welcomes this large donation by the "Fox of Glencoe", which it is hoped will influence and inspire a new generation of mountaineers for many years for to come.
