Marcus Humphrey Celebrates 60 Years of Contribution to the Aboyne Highland Games

The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Marcus Humphrey CBE OSTJ DL FRICS on his extraordinarycontribution over 60 years to the Aboyne Highland Games; understands that theAboyne Highland Games will be celebrating its 158th game in 2025 with MrHumphrey being the current longest standing member; notes that the AboyneHighland Games were established in 1867 and have occurred consistently everyyear except during the two World Wars; acknowledges that Mr Humphrey joined theAboyne Highland Games Committee in 1965, at 27 years old, and undertook hiscurrent position with the patrons in 2013 after serving 48 years in charge ofthe main dancing board; recognises that Mr Humphrey has served under twoChieftains and nine chairmen; applauds Mr Humphrey for his commitment to thegames and ability to help build camaraderie through the Kindred Gatherings withhis positions as patron at the Ballater Games, an honorary member of theBraemar Games and an honorary vice-president of the Lonach Games; recognises MrHumphrey as an elder stateman who took on the responsibility of Chieftain in a2021 flag raising ceremony during the COVID-19 pandemic where he entered thefield under his own banner; compliments Mr Humphrey for his notablecontribution to the 2017 Games whenHer Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited to celebratethe 150th anniversary; commends Mr Humphrey for being predominantly responsiblefor arranging the event and making it a historic day for all involved;understands that Mr Humphrey is known by his associates as a true gentleman;congratulates Mr Humphrey for his outstanding achievements and sportsmanship,and wishes him the very best for his upcoming 60th Aboyne Games on 2 August2025.
