150th Anniversary of Birth of John Buchan
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 26 August 2025 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of John Buchan in Perth in 1875; recognises that Buchan was the son of a Free Church minister and went on to have a distinguished career as a writer, politician and statesman, authoring over 100 books, including novels and biographies, most famously, The Thirty-Nine Steps, of which a number of film adaptations have been made; notes that he was elected as Unionist MP for the Scottish Universities in 1927, and that, in 1935, he was elevated to the peerage as Lord Tweedsmuir and appointed Governor-General of Canada, a position that he held until his death in 1940, and remembers his legacy as a patriotic Scot passionate about his nation’s history and heritage.
