Death of John Cook CBE

The motion

That the Parliament marks the outstanding life of the outdoor education pioneer, John Cook CBE, following his death at the end of 2025 at the age of 99; understands that John was one of the key figures behind the establishment of the Lagganlia Outdoor Centre in Glen Feshie, which was opened in 1970 with the late Duke of Edinburgh in attendance, as well as the Hillend Ski Slope near Edinburgh and other outdoor centres; notes that, as Depute Director of Education at Edinburgh Corporation from 1964, John was central to outdoor education being embedded in the school curriculum and was renowned across the UK in this field; further notes he was appointed a CBE for services to education in 1990; acknowledges the extraordinary legacy that he has left and his work in promoting outdoor education, and sends its condolences to John's family and friends.
