Recognising Children's Hospice Week

The motion

That the Parliament recognises Children’s Hospice Week and the vital role of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) as the only specialist provider of hospice services for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions and their families in Scotland; commends CHAS for delivering integrated, community-based palliative care across hospice, hospital, home and community settings; notes that the number of children and young people living with life-shortening conditions in the UK has increased by 40% over the last 10 years, with growing complexity of need requiring earlier, more coordinated and sustainable models of care; acknowledges the contribution of CHAS to improving outcomes for families, enabling choice about care and place of care and helping to reduce pressure on acute and unscheduled NHS services through early intervention and holistic support; recognises the role of CHAS in delivering Scotland’s only 24/7 Paediatric Palliative Care Clinical Advisory Service, supporting workforce capability and empowering local teams to provide safe and high-quality care closer to home; welcomes CHAS’s continued commitment to strengthening community capacity and supporting whole-family wellbeing, including through practical support such as financial wellbeing and energy advice; notes CHAS’s plans to invest in and refurbish its services to further enhance coordinated care across Scotland, and calls on the Scottish Government and partners across the health and care system to work in collaboration with CHAS to ensure sustainable and equitable access to high-quality children’s palliative care for all families who need it.
