The Happy Lands
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the gala screening of The Happy Lands on 8 June 2012 in Dunfermline; understands that the film, which is set during the General Strike of 1926, is based on the true stories of Fife miners and charts the struggles of communities on strike that were fighting against the austerity cuts imposed by the Liberal-Conservative administrations after the First World War; congratulates Theatre Workshop Scotland on developing the film alongside members of mining communities in Fife and notes the use of many local residents in the cast and crew; welcomes the training offered to local participants during production, including opportunities to work alongside experts from the creative industries, and looks forward to the film’s success.
