World Arthritis Day and World Osteoporosis Day

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes World Arthritis Day and World Osteoporosis Day during the month of October; understands that musculoskeletal conditions are by far the most prevalent cause of work-related illness in the UK, resulting in 9.5 million lost working days and costing society £7.4 billion a year; congratulates the Scottish Network for Arthritis in Children and the National Osteoporosis Society for their work in Fife and across the country in raising awareness of these conditions in children and for the support that they provide to children, families and carers; congratulates the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance and its members for undertaking equivalent work to support the adult Scottish population; notes the importance of physiotherapy as a way to support people with a rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease to improve their mobility and stay physically active, and welcomes the launch of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society’s Responsibility Deal, which seeks to highlight the specific contributions that patients, clinicians, commissioners and policy-makers can all make toward the better treatment and management of rheumatoid arthritis in Scotland.
