North West Edinburgh Foodbank and Trussell Trust Trolley Push

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the North West Edinburgh Foodbank’s participation in the Trussell Trust Trolley Push on 18 April 2013, which aimed to highlight awareness of food shortage in Scotland's communities; commends those who took part in this event, which saw volunteers, recipients and partner agencies leave the Rannoch Centre in Drum Brae with the trolley, crossing the city at a distance of some six miles to be finally greeted by the First Minister and other MSPs at the Parliament; understands that the Trussell Trust, in partnership with local food banks, has organised trolley push events nationwide during April and May to alert people in need of food provisions that what it sees as this vital service is available to them; notes that there are two food banks in Edinburgh, with a further three in development, and that the Trussell Trust currently supports over a dozen food banks in Scotland alone, all of which provide three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food to people experiencing extreme shortage, many of whom are families struggling as a result of the economic downturn, and commends the generosity of local people who are relied on to make this service possible by donating food to their nearest food bank.
