Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week
The motion
That the Parliament understands that the first national Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week will be held from 24 to 30 June 2013; believes that the week will be important in raising awareness of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which is a chronic autoimmune disease; welcomes the recent publication of a report by the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS), which, it understands, highlights concerns regarding the poor levels of awareness of how RA impacts on people across the UK; believes that strong public awareness of RA is of critical importance as a means to improve rates of early diagnosis and help minimise the impact of the condition on patients, families and society; calls on the Scottish Government to review its current approach to raising awareness of RA and to initiate a high-level dialogue to formulate an action plan to bring meaningful change, and praises the work of NRAS in campaigning for equal access to good care and services for all RA patients, their families and carers.
