Clydeport's Greenock Ocean Terminal and Inverclyde Tourist Group's First Class Service

The motion

That the Parliament believes that Greenock Ocean Terminal, which is run by Clydeport, is a perfectly positioned deep water facility for both freight and cruise ships; understands that cruise passengers receive a warm welcome from the Inverclyde Tourist Group, which includes the stirring sounds of a traditional piper’s welcome the moment that they disembark; believes that Greenock is the gateway to some of Scotland’s most breathtaking scenery; understands that passengers can access a host of exciting excursions and attractions, including the architectural, cultural and shopping delights of Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow; understands that 83,000 cruise passengers and 25,000 crew are expect to arrive at Greenock in 2013; considers that this will bring a major boost to the Inverclyde economy; notes that cruise ship demand exceeds capacity and that, because of this, Clydeport has had to turn away 10 ships for 2013; recognises that, in December 2012, Scotland was named Destination of the Year at the what it considers the prestigious Seatrade Cruise Insider Awards; believes that this accolade is testimony to the efforts of Cruise Scotland’s member ports; understands that Cruise Scotland set new records in 2012, with 436 cruise calls delivering 379,955 passengers, an increase of 14 and 19% respectively on 2011; further understands that this generated an estimated £41.2 million to Scotland's economy; believes that Scotland delivers a world class service for cruise ship passengers, and congratulates all of the stakeholders across the tourism industry in Scotland who deliver a quality experience for everyone.
