35 Years of the Edinburgh Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre
The motion
That the Parliament pays tribute to what it considers the vitally important work of the Edinburgh Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre; considers that the need for rape crisis and sexual abuse services is very sadly greater than ever and that over 400 survivors were supported last year; notes the way in which a range of services has been developed including immediate crisis sessions, long-term individual counselling, a specialist project for young survivors aged 12 to 18 including art therapy, outreach services including for women involved in prostitution and much else; recognises the funding challenges faced by the centre, with a 75% cut to its frontline support and counselling services anticipated at the end of May 2014 due to the ending of funding streams; notes that a public funding appeal has been launched to help toward raising the required funds, and thanks all the volunteers and staff whose profoundly helpful support was described by three rape survivors at a recent Parliament event.
