Lymphoedema Care in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament notes the publication of the Scottish Medical and Scientific Committee report, Lymphoedema Care in Scotland: Achieving Equity and Quality; considers that the report highlights matters of importance to people in Scotland with lymphoedema; is concerned at its finding that prevalence of cancer and non-cancer related lymphoedema may already affect 7,000 to 21,000 people and that this number is increasing; understands that lymphoedema is an underrecognised condition, which can carry significant human, personal, financial and societal costs if not controlled; believes that there is variation of service provision and often lengthy waits to diagnosis and access to treatment; believes that this is an unacceptable situation; considers that there is a need for improved education of care professionals in the management of the condition, and urges everyone concerned about lymphoedema to support the report's recommendations.
