Democracy and the Edinburgh Agreement

Lodged by Chic Brodie Standard Motion 28 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament dismisses the reported comments made by an unnamed senior coalition source that a Yes vote in the independence referendum in September 2014 would not necessarily guarantee an independent Scotland in 2016; considers that such a claim rejects the democratic process and denies acceptance of the vote outcome as enshrined in the "Edinburgh Agreement"; calls on the Prime Minister to name the source and to reject the comments made; further considers it regrettable that comments made on 13 February 2014 by the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the unnamed coalition source deny proper debate and scrutiny of the issues, and believes that the coalition has no strategy for Scotland and the rest of the UK, whatever the outcome of the vote in the independence referendum.
