The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Lewis and Harris have been named by TripAdvisor as the best islands in Europe; understands that Orkney and Mull are also named in the European top 10; notes that Scotland dominates the UK list, which also includes Skye, Arran and Islay; believes that this will be a boost to tourism in the islands; understands that the lists were based on opinions of people who had visited the islands; notes that this news comes shortly after Scotland was named by the travel guide, Lonely Planet, as one of the top places in the world to visit in 2014, behind only Brazil and Antarctica; believes that the comments of the Lonely Planet contributor Tom Hall that, "Scotland…will be taking the spotlight on the world stage" and its "buzzing cities and stunning scenery have plenty to offer visitors, combined with an incredible calendar of events", demonstrate the potential for a successful year for the country's tourism industry, and looks forward to further recognition of what it considers to be Scotland’s sustainability as a top tourist destination.
