Young Farmers from the West of Scotland Grow Asparagus
The motion
That the Parliament notes what it considers a pioneering achievement by two young farmers from Renfrewshire, Robert Ritchie of Barrangary Farm in Bishopton, and James Mackie of Barnhill Farm in Inchinnan, in producing what it understands is the west of Scotland's first commercial asparagus crop; believes that, after the crop is harvested, it is supplied to premier eating establishments, thus allowing chefs to have freshly picked asparagus on the menu within 24 hours; considers this to be an exciting example of agricultural diversity, quality Scottish food production and, given that they are located in the west of Scotland and as asparagus does not like rain, a commendable demonstration of entrepreneurial innovation; congratulates the two young farmers on a very positive contribution to agriculture and food production; urges them to keep investigating potential new products, and wishes them every success.
