Scottish Government Increasing Nurses’ Pay
The motion
That the Parliament notes that International Nurses’ Day is celebrated on 12 May 2014; recognises that the Scottish Government has acted to improve pay for Scotland’s nurses who, from 1 April 2014, will receive a 1% pay rise while no such increase will be applied in England; understands that a nurse in Scotland will typically earn £23,363 in April 2015, compared to £22,903 in England, a difference of £460, while the lowest paid NHS staff in Scotland could earn £1,064 more than their counterparts in England, in part due to the application of the living wage in Scotland; congratulates the Scottish Government on honouring its commitments to pay the living wage, and acknowledges what it considers the debt of gratitude that is owed to nurses in NHS Scotland for their dedication and professionalism, which is very often above and beyond the call of duty.
