Traditional Building Skills Demonstration for Scottish Apprenticeship Week
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the event held in Falkirk town centre on 23 May 2014 as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, which featured apprentices demonstrating traditional building skills including masonry, lead roofing, joinery and painting and decorating; recognises that the event was a collaboration between Forth Valley College, Falkirk Delivers, Falkirk THI, Falkirk ETU, Falkirk Council, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, Stone Federation Great Britain and Historic Scotland; understands that this event was open to members of the public and that several school visits were organised to raise the profile of the construction options available to young people when considering a career in the construction industry, and believes that the event highlighted the collaborative approach of these organisations to draw attention to the necessity for traditional building skills to protect the built heritage for future generations.
