The motion

That the Parliament commends Transport Scotland, Amey, R J McLeod Ltd and Guard Archaeology Ltd on what it considers their careful work to preserve archaeological data and artefacts during the construction of the Dunragit bypass; understands that the Guard Archaeology teams, which are led by Warren Bailie and Kevin Mooney, have uncovered a range of prehistoric archaeology that spans 7,000 years of human activity in the area; believes that these range from the Mesolithic period to the Iron Age and, among many hundreds of finds, include some very rare discoveries, such as Galloway’s first-ever bronze-age jet necklaces and an entire unenclosed Iron Age settlement; looks forward to the completion of the post-excavation process and the deliberations of the Scottish Archaeological Finds Advisory Panel, and expresses the hope that, with the cooperation of Dumfries and Galloway Council, the eventual destination of what it sees as this enormously significant cultural assemblage will be put on display in Galloway.
