Airdrie Academy Tribute of Remembrance
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Airdrie Academy on its tribute of remembrance for those who died during the First World War; understands that, as part of the remembrance service, pupils read excerpts from soldiers' letters, performed scenes from the play, Black Watch, and recited war poems; considers that this is an innovative way to foster an interest among young people about the conflict and history in general; believes that representatives from the Gordon Highlanders and the Lanarkshire Family History Society were also present to educate pupils about soldiers' kits and artefacts from the period; notes the contribution of the local historian, Mr Allan MacKenzie, in providing what it considers invaluable help to the service, and considers remembrance particularly important for young people, given the youth of the soldiers in the conflict.
