Supporting an Aberdeen City Region Deal
The motion
That the Parliament notes that Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council published proposals for a city region deal bid, Powering Tomorrow’s World, on 9 March 2015; understands that the backers of the bid believe that it “is possibly the best opportunity in the UK to build further growth into an already successful regional economy”; is aware that the proposals are estimated to be valued at £2.9 billion over 20 years; considers that the north east boasts a dynamic economy of national importance and that an Aberdeen City Region Deal could boost jobs and growth and help it address a range of challenges and realise its potential; understands that the initiative aims to improve the region’s competitiveness, connectivity, infrastructure, housing, employment and lifestyle; recognises that it is supported by a broad range of partners, including the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University, North East Scotland College, Oil & Gas UK, Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future, Aberdeen Harbour and Nestrans; hopes that the bid will gain further backing from parties and organisations across the public and private sectors, as well as local people, and wishes it success.
