University of Edinburgh Climbs World Rankings
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the University of Edinburgh on rising 17 places to 29th in the 2015 Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings; applauds the university on consolidating its position as one of the world’s leading research and teaching establishments whose activity is having an impact on a global scale; considers that the rankings reflect the high quality of the university’s staff and students; welcomes the benefits of Edinburgh being ranked among the world’s best universities; believes that it brings international prestige to Scotland and attracts the most talented students and staff from across the world; understands that the University of Edinburgh is the only Scottish institution to make it onto the rankings, which incorporate the 100 most powerful global university brands; further notes that the reputation league table is based on the expert judgement of senior academics worldwide, the people it considers best placed to know the most about excellence in universities; believes that the University of Edinburgh is a credit to Scotland’s education system, and commends what it sees as the quality, hard work and dedication of the staff and students.
