Calum's Cabin
The motion
That the Parliament recognises what it considers the incredible work of Calum's Cabin, based in Rothesay, in providing families of children with cancer the chance to have a holiday together; believes that the idea to have a place where irreplaceable memories could be made came from Calum Spiers, a 12-year-old boy who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour; understands that Calum's mother, Caroline, his father, Duncan, and twin sister, Jenna, started fundraising to buy a caravan to allow families dealing with a child with cancer to come to Bute; understands with sadness that Calum died 13 months later and was unable to see the development of his heart-warming idea; notes that tireless fundraising and generosity has allowed Calum's wishes to help others live on; commends the Spiers family, the volunteers who assist in the shop and with the cabins and the community of Rothesay in enabling 103 families including 311 children in 2014 to enjoy precious moments in difficult times, and wishes the 347 walkers raising money for Calum's Cabin at the 2015 Kiltwalk the very best of luck.
