Parents and Carers Spotlight Day

That the Parliament congratulates the shopworkers' trade union, USDAW, on its Parents and Carers Spotlight Day; notes that the day, which has been organised annually for the last eight years, aims to highlight issues that affect the day-to-day lives of USDAW’s members and ordinary working people throughout the UK; understands that a recent survey of over 2,500 of the union's members suggested that eight out of 10 believe that life is harder now than it was five years ago and that the things they worry about the most are changes to their jobs, money and time off work when someone needs looked after; welcomes therefore the union saying to its members “Is worry tying you up in knots? Talk to USDAW”; is concerned that the vast majority of the people who responded to the survey, 87%, said that they, or someone close to them, have experienced a mental health problem; understands that issues such as money pressures, balancing work with caring duties, rising food and energy prices, changes to working hours and mental health problems have all been considered by the Parliament and believes that improved funding of services to help people under pressure is required; calls on the Scottish Government to support USDAW's campaign, and congratulates the members of the union’s Equalities Forum in Scotland on organising a campaign event at Morrisons in Johnstone as part of this.
