Support for Summer Football

Lodged by Roderick Campbell Standard Motion 15 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament understands that, in a recent BBC Scotland survey, almost two-thirds of Scotland’s senior football clubs supported consideration being made of moving to a summer season; sees this as an opportunity for further discussion on the matter and welcomes the SFA's reported commitment to reopen the debate by planning to raise the findings at the next meeting of its joint strategy group; believes that the Scottish Football Supporters’ Association and Supporters Direct Scotland support a summer season, and, while understanding the concerns that have been expressed by the Scottish Professional Football League's (SPFL) chief executive regarding potential difficulties in implementing this, encourages a full debate on summer football between the SFA, SPFL and representatives of junior, amateur and grassroots football.
