Evanton Community Wood Prize

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Evanton Community Wood and Dingwall Academy on winning Scotland’s Finest Woods and the Outdoor and Woodland Learning Scotland Crown Estate Schools trophy category for 2015; notes that the trophy was presented to the winners at the 2015 Highland Show in Ingliston by the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform; understands that the trophy is awarded to those who can demonstrate either a programme of learning in a woodland or forest environment such as a Forest School or in a forest industry setting, a classroom-based study of woods and forests or the forest industry or practical tree-planting or woodland improvement projects in school grounds or in the local community; commends the pupils and staff from Dingwall Academy who have been helping in the wood for the last two years and Simon Harry, Evanton Community Wood’s Education Coordinator, for their work in promoting young people’s understanding and appreciation of the environmental, social and economic potential of trees, woodlands and forests and of the link between trees and everyday wood-based products; wishes everyone involved with Evanton Community Wood well for the future, and hopes that this community asset goes from strength to strength.
