Team Orkney and Team Shetland Compete in NatWest Island Games

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the NatWest Island Games 2015, which are being hosted by Jersey on 29 June to 3 July; understands that the week-long games involve over 2,700 athletes from 24 islands and is the biggest sporting event ever held on the island; believes that the event provides the opportunity for hundreds of young sportsmen and women from small island communities to compete and enjoy international competition against other islanders with similar standards of performance; considers it a benefit of such a unique festival of sport that it allows opportunities for cultural exchange and social interaction with visiting teams and the chance to establish new friendships with fellow islanders; congratulates Team Orkney and Team Shetland on representing Scotland in the NatWest Island Games 2015, and wishes them and the other teams every success.
