Legion d’Honneur for Aberdeenshire Veteran
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the 91-year-old Second World War veteran, Ian Gillespie, who is from Turriff in Aberdeenshire, on being awarded the Legion d’Honneur in recognition of his service in the D-Day landings on board HMS Kelvin; understands that the Legion d’Honneur is France’s highest military honour and is a sign of the French Government’s recognition of the acts of heroism and determination displayed by the veterans who survived the Normandy landings; thanks Mr Gillespie for his efforts in helping to liberate Europe, and commends him on the latest recognition of his service.
