Welcoming the Orkney Hydrogen Economic Strategy
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of Orkney Island Council’s Draft Hydrogen Economic Strategy; congratulates the council on what it considers its pioneering approach to tackling the restrictions currently placed on renewable energy generation in Orkney by inadequate grid connections to mainland Scotland; considers that there are many potential benefits offered by hydrogen production, including allowing the storage of renewable energy for use as and when it is required; hopes that the measures outlined in the draft strategy once implemented will help mitigate the impact of what it sees as the UK Government’s regressive policies toward renewables, and understands that the strategy holds the potential to create jobs, attract skilled young people and generate sustainable economic growth for present and future generations of Orcadians.
