Response to Flooding across Aberdeenshire

The motion

That the Parliament commends what it considers the outstanding response by Aberdeenshire Council, its staff, elected members and local people during the severe flooding across the Aberdeenshire area; praises the efforts of the rest centres created in Inverurie and Ellon academies, as well as the Strathburn Hotel in Inverurie, which provided accommodation free of charge, and the Buchan and New Inn hotels in Ellon, which made accommodation immediately available to those affected; acknowledges and appreciates the Inverurie Flood Forum and all involved for providing vital information and countless volunteers; notes that many of the residents, shopkeepers and business owners who have been flooded are also retained firefighters who have been on call since Hogmanay; recognises and applauds the emergency services throughout Aberdeenshire for their continued and relentless efforts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the affected communities, and warmly welcomes the local support that has been shown to friends, families and neighbours with incredible kindness and generosity during these severe weather conditions.
