DEBRA, Raising Awareness of Epidermolysis Bullosa
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the work of the charity, DEBRA, in raising awareness of epidermolysis bullosa (EB), providing support to those with the condition and their families and funding research; understands that EB is a group of currently incurable, painful, genetic skin-blistering disorders that cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch; further understands that, in its most severe forms, EB can be fatal; believes that the blistering and scarring leaves people with the condition susceptible to internal and external infections and to skin cancer; recognises the efforts of DEBRA to raise money for research and support, and hopes that the pioneering research programmes that it funds continue to improve understanding of EB, find effective treatments and, ultimately, lead to a cure.
