Children's Mental Health Week
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Children’s Mental Health Week 2016, which will run from 8 to 14 February and will have the theme, Building Resilience; understands that three children in every classroom are estimated to have a diagnosable mental health problem and that, while it is not always possible to change children's circumstances, they can be taught the skills to cope with the difficulties that life throws at them and to bounce forward from life's challenges; considers that children are less likely to suffer from serious mental health issues in later life if they receive support at an early age; welcomes the various initiatives taking place during the awareness week; notes that these will include a new project that will be launched by Place2Be in partnership with other third sector agencies, which will aim to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families in the Stirling area, and hopes that such initiatives will help to raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental health.
