Time for Young Adult LGBT Carers to be Heard

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges the launch of the Carers Trust Scotland research report, Young people caring OUT there: experiences of LGBT young adult carers in Scotland, which examined the lives and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) young adult carers in Scotland; recognises the important unpaid caring responsibilities that some young people have for a family member or friend who is disabled, has a mental illness or an addiction problem; appreciates that, for young adult carers who identify as LGBT, their experiences of using services can be affected by their dual identity as a carer and an LGBT person, which can lead to feeling even more marginalised and isolated; notes that LGBT young adult carers are not always recognised by education, health and social care professionals as undertaking a caring role, or as being LGBT, and believes that services and support should be provided to ensure that their physical and mental health and wellbeing are maintained so that they can achieve their true potential in all aspects of their lives.
