The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the 10th anniversary of the ban on smoking in enclosed public places in Scotland; considers that Scotland is at the forefront of the fight against passive smoking; hails what it sees as the immediate positive impact that the ban had on health in Scotland, with a 17% drop in hospital admissions for heart attacks in the first year after the legislation was introduced and a reduction in childhood asthma admissions of 18% per year as compared with a 5% increase per year in the years preceding the ban; recognises the continuing work that needs to be done to create a tobacco-free generation in Scotland by the Scottish Government’s target date of 2034, and congratulates ASH Scotland and all other organisations that are working to achieve this goal.
