World Down's Syndrome Day

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes 21 March 2019 as World Down’s Syndrome Day; notes that the event celebrates the lives of people with the condition and campaigns to ensure that they enjoy the same opportunities and freedoms as everybody else; understands that, this year, everyone is being encouraged to support the Lots of Socks campaign; acknowledges this year’s socks were designed by Sam Asaad, from Iraq, who has a brother, Arya, with the condition; believes that, to ensure that society is inclusive and accessible for everyone, it is important for a range of different partners to work together, and considers that initiatives such as this awareness day are important as they can help to create solutions.
