Plastic Unwrapped Pledge to Reduce Plastics and Increase Recycling
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates ASDA on the initial success of its "Plastic Unwrapped" pledge to use less plastic and improve the recyclability of its products; welcomes the news that the company has achieved its first target of reducing its own brand plastic packaging by 10% within 12 months, and understands that this equates to 6,500 tonnes of plastic; further welcomes that 290 million single use plastic carrier bags have been removed from ASDA stores; is pleased to note that the company has set a longer-term target of ensuring that all its own brand packaging is recyclable by 2025, and that it is committed to a collaborative approach in order to achieve best results; looks forward to the publication of the company’s forthcoming report on sustainable packaging, and wishes it success in meeting its future environmental targets.
