The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Petrina Williams, who is from Alloa, on being the starter for the Cancer Research UK Race for Life, which took place in Stirling on 12 May 2019 and featured over 1,000 runners; acknowledges that Petrina took up this lead role in memory of her late daughter, Melissa McIntosh, who was a support worker at Struan House, and who died from the condition aged only 26 in 2012, just four weeks after being diagnosed; notes that, to help remember her daughter, Petrina set up the fundraising group, Mel’s Belles, in 2013, which includes many of Melissa's former school friends from Lornshill Academy and her fellow sports coaching friends from Clackmannanshire Council; commends the group on raising over £2,000 so far, and applauds Petrina for her courage and highly magnanimous fundraising work for the charity.
