Congratulations to the Proclaimers on their First Number One Single

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates The Proclaimers, Craig and Charlie Reid, on reaching number one in the singles chart with the Comic Relief version of their song, I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles); recognises that this is the duo’s first number one and has been achieved with a song which has long had a special place in Scottish hearts and comes 19 years after the record was originally released, and welcomes the fact that the monies raised from sales of the single go towards good causes aimed at alleviating poverty and hardship at home and abroad.
