Scottish Mining Museum, Best Visitor Experience 2009

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Mining Museum at the former Lady Victoria Colliery in Newtongrange on winning the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions’ (ASVA) Best Visitor Experience Award 2009, which recognises excellence in visitor experience among over 500 ASVA member visitor attractions; notes that entries were assessed on all aspects of the layout and content of the attraction and on the experience offered, including the quality of interaction between staff and visitors; recognises that the museum was commended for its commitment to providing a great day out for all ages and for the passion of its staff for preserving and presenting Scotland’s industrial heritage in an informative and enjoyable way; applauds the hard work and dedication of the staff at the museum in securing this award; encourages members of the public to pay a visit to this hugely important living reminder of Scotland’s industrial heritage, and welcomes the key role played by the ASVA in the drive to increase tourism revenues by 50% by 2015.
