The motion

That the Parliament congratulates SELECT on its 100th annual general meeting, which was held on 6 June 2012; notes that the association, representing over 1,250 companies across Scotland, 15,000 employees and with a combined turnover by its members of £1 billion per annum, is independent and autonomous; welcomes its aims to drive up industry standards and ensure high quality work by member companies and training of future electricians; understands that the founder body, the Electrical Contractors Association of Scotland, formed in 1900, was the first trade body in the world to serve the electrical industry;  recognises that many of the concerns in the sector in 1900, including industry standards, wiring regulations and registration for the electrical industry, wage rates, working conditions and training of apprentices are still relevant today; further notes that newer issues, such as installation of micro-renewables, are also of interest to the trade association in the 21st century, and wishes SELECT all the best for the next 100 AGMs.
