The motion

That the Parliament notes with sadness the passing of Alex Falconer, the former MEP for Mid Scotland and Fife, on 12 August 2012; pays tribute to Alex’s long career representing the region from 1984 to1999 and recognises the strong links that the former worker at Rosyth Dockyard had to the trade union movement through his time as a Transport and General Workers Union shop steward and Chairman of Fife Trades Council; recognises his personal commitment to fights against issues such as the poll-tax and water privatisation; gives thanks for what it considers to have been his tireless work as a campaigner for victims of asbestos-related diseases and his lifelong commitment to social justice and equality, and sends sincere and heartfelt condolences to his wife Margaret and family.
